The summer holidays are a great time for a trip. The weather is beautiful, the sun is shining, and adventure is in the wind. The hardest part about vacation is that eventually it ends. Coming home from an amazing trip can be hard, but there are a few things you can do to ease the transition. Being excited to go home doesn’t mean you enjoyed the trip any less, it just means you like your home and your everyday life. That’s a good thing.
What to do for your home before leaving on your trip:
1. Clean!
Yes, you are leaving and don’t have to deal with the mess, but just think about how much nicer it would be to come home to a clean home instead of a giant mess. Bonus points for washing your sheets.
2. Water your plants.
It’s gonna be hot. Whether it’s a sprinkler on a timer, an upside bottle or a friend stopping by to water, your plants don’t have to die just because you want to go on a trip.
3. Reset your thermostat.
No need to keep running the AC when nobody’s home. Make sure nothing is going to melt in the heat, but there is no need to rack up the electricity bill keeping a comfortable temperature when nobody is around to enjoy it.
4. Tackle the fridge.
You don’t want to come home to moldy food and spoiled milk. This can be a great opportunity to get rid of anything you’ve been meaning to throw away anyway. Don’t get too carried away though. It’s a good idea to leave something to eat for when you get back, in case your return journey leaves you hungry at home, you want to have something delicious you can put together.
5. Schedule work.
If you have any work that needs to be done to your home, think about scheduling while you are gone. Find professionals that you can trust and are happy with. This way you won’t get in each other’s way while the work is being done. And won’t it be nice to come home to the finished product?
