Decks are often a favorite of any abode. We all cherish the months we can linger outdoors and watch the sun fall from the sky while sipping our cold beverages. We rejoice when the weather warms up enough for us to open the windows and venture out. The days get longer, warmer and the world becomes a little brighter.
Creating a deck for you home can both add to your happiness and the value of your home. Each deck is different and may require different materials to get the right deck for you home. Below are some of the different opportunities available for decking, and what they can do for your space.
Composite decking has come a long way. More durable and less toxic than treated wood, this is a more expensive but still affordable option that requires no maintenance. Azek, TimberTech & Trex decking are all good options that come in various finishes. These materials have come a long way in the past few years and often closely resemble wood.
Cedar, Redwood & Pine are all common woods for decks. These materials must often be treated to increase durability. Untreated wood weathers and turns grey with time. Wood is also prone to warping and splintering. It’s always a good idea to know where you wood is coming from. If you are choosing the Redwood option, be sure you really need that wood before you cut down one of those majestic trees.
Stone, Tile or Brick are good options for a ground level sitting area. Stone is often more expensive than wood or composite but does last longer.
Railings are an important part of your deck experience. Systems such as the Color Guard or Versatex rail offer stability and style. These rails come in a variety of styles and colors to best suit your needs. If you don’t want to obstruct the view check out a cable rail system such as Feeney. These rails offer the safety you need without blocking the scenery.
