Sometimes, we find our homes to be a bit overwhelming. It happens to all of us. We try to keep things organized, but it almost seems like we can never get our new systems to stick. We sat down with someone who makes it stick. Meet Muffy White of Muffy White Organizing + Styling (MWOS). She is a professional organizer and stylist and here to help you with everything from cleaning out the junk drawer to moving out of state.
How did you get started?
I have been organizing homes since my childhood in one way or another - but my business was born when one week (almost 10 years ago) I received calls from two friends asking for help to get their closets organized.
What types of work do you do?
What inspires your work?
I love life to feel uncomplicated - and I believe uncluttered environments are calming and freeing.
Nature, fashion, architecture and literature all inspire me.
What has been your favorite project to date? And why?
Wow, this is a tough question because truly no two projects are the same and the friendships I have made along the way are the best part.
One that stands out is a big move from CT to MA - that was amazing. The home was filled with incredible antiques and art (including a writing desk that had been used by George Washington). The team that supported me was phenomenal. The clients were thrilled with the results. It was a great experience to see the entire process flow and work from beginning to end.
What is your favorite "Tool of the Trade"? And why?
Lately, Post-its. Being able to visualize the categories of a project: KEEP / SELL / DONATE / TRASH really helps to quantify and qualify what you own and want. The first step in organizing a space is to understand the contents.
What are some tips you have for homeowners to stay organized and fresh?
How is your business offering eco-friendly options?
Love this question! MWOS does everything possible to keep things out of landfills! We help clients donate and consign items they are done using. We use Black Earth Compost for textile recycling for the clothes/linens too far gone for donation. We take the time to separate recyclables when organizing a space.
What’s your favorite part about your work?
I love when families use their homes to the full potential - opening organized cabinets, perusing neat bookcases, knowing where items are (no hunting for things!) all together create calm and happier homes. I wish I could bring this feeling to everyone!
Why would someone choose your services over doing it themselves?
I think we all could do with asking for help every now and again - allowing us to do the OTHER things (like play, read, etc.) Organizing can be learned but it is not intuitive for everyone - it is okay to get support for getting your vision in place and ideas in action.
Who is your least favorite superhero? And why?
I have always loved the Wonder Twins (anyone remember them?) they were the ultimate team and together could get anything done! “Wonder Twins powers, activate!”
