Creating a kitchen that fosters family interaction and embraces the beauty of its surroundings is always a rewarding challenge. In one of our recent kitchen designs, we focused on creating a space that blends family living with the beauty of outdoor views. We were tasked with designing a functional and inviting space that would not only serve as the heart of the home but also take full advantage of the breathtaking waterfront views.

The foundation of this kitchen design was an open concept that seamlessly connects the kitchen with the adjacent living and dining areas. By removing barriers and creating a fluid layout, we maximized the space, giving the family plenty of room to move around, cook, and enjoy time together.

The kitchen opens directly onto a deck, offering a perfect transition for indoor-outdoor living. In the summer months, the family can effortlessly take their meals outside or host gatherings on the deck, with the kitchen serving as a convenient hub. The ability to flow between indoor and outdoor spaces not only makes the home feel larger but also allows the family to take full advantage of warm weather and scenic location.

We wanted this space to have a classic and timeless feel, but we also wanted to make sure that it had a few fun and creative elements. One of the ways we worked this in is built in an archway with open shelving. This design element creates some soft, round lines, and also makes space for photos and other decor. The arch we designed was a custom built in done by the builder, Bob Cahill.

Our biggest challenge was to create a symmetrical kitchen amid some asymmetrical windows. In bringing the cabinets next to the stove all the way down to the counter, we were able to create an artificial divide that gives your eye a sense of symmetry.

A key feature of this kitchen is its large central island. It acts as both a functional prep space and a casual gathering area. It’s perfect for meal prep with ample countertop space, allowing several people to work together without feeling cramped. The island also includes seating, making it an ideal spot for quick breakfasts, after-school snacks, or even a place to relax with a cup of coffee while catching up with loved ones.

Overall, this kitchen was designed with family life in mind. Whether they’re cooking, entertaining, or just enjoying a quiet moment, this space provides the perfect balance of practicality and beauty. With plenty of room to move around and a seamless connection to the outdoors, the family can truly make the most of their time together in this kitchen.
