The Captains Contemporary Renovation

Designing a kitchen that blends the classic character of a home while meeting the modern demands of a busy family is both an art and a science. Recently, we had the pleasure of working on such a project. Our clients wanted to keep the unique charm of their home while creating the perfect space to bring food and family together. This was a collaborative design process, with our clients involved in every step. Ensuring that every detail reflected their vision and needs.

The first step in our journey was to understand the home’s character. This particular house had a classic charm, with a history of housing sailors dating back to the early 1900’s. They wanted their new kitchen to feel modern, but to also fit into the charm of the home. The resulting contemporary design is a perfect blend of modern and classic styles. One of the key points for our clients was finding the right finish for their cabinets. They had their hearts set on a vision of green that we were able to bring to life with a custom color from our Plain & Fancy cabinetry line. 

As enthusiastic cooks, one of the requirements was a high quality oven and a warming drawer. Which has proven itself above and beyond expectations. Whether it’s chasing the kids out the door to school or trying to get them into bed, it’s often hard to find the time to eat for yourself. And by the time you get to your plate, it's cold. Enter the warming drawer. 

The countertops were another important piece. We opted for a Taj Mahal Quartzite countertop that offered durability and held the charm of a classic stone. The subtle veining in the quartz added visual interest without clashing with the bold green cabinets. The butcher block on the end adds a touch of warmth and character, and makes for a great prep space for  the cook. 

This kitchen design project was truly a labor of love, reflecting the passion and involvement of our clients every step of the way. From selecting the perfect green to ensuring the kitchen met their family's needs, every decision was made with care and consideration. The result is a kitchen that not only blends seamlessly with the character of the home but also serves as a functional, beautiful space for the family to grow.
