Your kitchen is a big investment, and likely one that will see a lot of use. Dust and grease can easily build up. To keep the daily wear and tear at bay, it's important to take proper care of your cabinetry.
Microfiber cloths are the best for cleaning. Wiping down your cabinets once or twice a week will prevent dirt and dust from building up too much. When you are looking for a deeper clean, try the following:
Wood Cabinets:
Just like any wood products in your home, it’s recommended to clean and oil these once or twice a year. There are plenty of good cleaners on the market. If you have one you like stick with it, if not try this DIY solution.
Homemade cleaning solution
Use this mixture to wipe down your cabinetry with a soft rag or microfiber cloth.
Rinse cabinets completely
Seal with furniture oil, for best results use one with beeswax.
Painted Cabinets:
Painted cabinets require a gentle cleaner so as not to strip the finish. Use the same mixture above but skip the rubbing alcohol. Using a spray bottle can help you easily control and distribute this cleaning solution. Wipe with a microfiber cloth and use a separate clean one to dry the cabinets for best results.
Laminate Cabinets:
These are the easiest to clean because their surface is non-porous. Use the same mixture as stained wood cabinets.
Around the Stove:
Grease has a tendency to build up on the cabinets around the stove. To cut through the grease, try a spray bottle with vodka and some castile soap. This vodka will cut through the grease while the soap will help lift it away. Be sure to rinse after with a clean damp microfiber cloth.
